Verse of the Day: Romans 1:16
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
Imagine being cast off by your own people, regarded as an apostate, and persecuted by the wise among the Gentiles. Paul experienced all this. He was despised, driven from place to place, and considered the filth of the world and the offscouring of all things. Yet, despite these hardships, Paul was not ashamed of the gospel. His conviction of its value and truth was unwavering. He had experienced its consolations and witnessed its efficacy firsthand. Far from being ashamed, he gloried in it as the power of God unto salvation.
In Paul's time, Rome prided itself on power, while Greece boasted about philosophy and wisdom. Despite their claims, the Romans, like all people, were powerless to make themselves righteous before God. However, Christ is both the Wisdom and the Power of God. The gospel is more than mere information; it possesses inherent power.
The gospel’s power to bring salvation is available to everyone who believes. God will not withhold salvation from those who have faith; believing is the only requirement. This truth was the source of Paul’s unshakable confidence and joy.
Think about the power of the gospel in your own life. Have you experienced its transformative power? Are you confident in its truth and efficacy? Remember, it is not about lifting ourselves up through our own efforts, but about allowing the power of the gospel to lift us up.
