Verse of the Day: Matthew 5:6 NKJV
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.”
Hunger and thirst are among the most intense and demanding of human needs, representing a strong desire that commands immediate attention. These primal urges powerfully illustrate the deep yearning we should have to obtain righteousness. Just as no needs are as urgent as hunger and thirst, our desire for righteousness should be just as keen and persistent.
Consider those who are shipwrecked or lost in a desert, enduring days with scarcely any food or water. Their distress and desperation are palpable. Similarly, an ardent desire for God is often depicted in Scripture as hunger and thirst. This longing isn't a mere craving that can be satisfied with a small snack; it's a profound hunger that endures, a thirst that cannot be quenched on this side of eternity.
Yet, there is a beautiful promise from God: He will satisfy our desire for Him. Jesus promises to fill the hungry with as much as they can eat. This is a unique filling, one that both satisfies and keeps us longing for more.
Let us embrace this holy hunger and thirst, knowing that God's promise to satisfy us is both a present comfort and a call to continually seek Him.
