Verse of the Day: Colossians 4:6 NKJV
“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
In his letter to the Colossians, the Apostle Paul provides a beautiful ideal for how Christians should speak. Our words should always be filled with grace—reflecting kindness, compassion, and a willingness to see the best in others. When we are tempted to speak out of envy, jealousy, or frustration, it is vital to let the Holy Spirit guide our tongues, transforming potential harm into words that uplift and bless.
Paul also reminds us that our words should be seasoned with salt—reflecting purity, wisdom, and liveliness. A touch of humour or a witty remark is not out of place, as long as it is wholesome and edifying. When we engage with others, our presence should naturally discourage gossip, coarse jokes, or unkind conversations, simply because our words are infused with the grace of God.
To maintain this high standard of speech, we must remain in constant prayer, asking God to give us the right words at the right time. Whether we’re sharing the beauty of Christ with others or navigating difficult conversations, the Holy Spirit is always ready to guide us in what to say.
