Verse of the Day: Matthew 6:9 NKJV
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.”
True prayer begins with recognising God as our Father, embracing the spirit of adoption. When we can truly say, “I will go to my Father,” we open the way to real communion with Him. This sense of childlike belonging grows into reverence for our holy Father in heaven. Our praise of “Abba, Father” rises to joyful adoration, and with it, our hearts become eager for God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done, in all places and all hearts.
From this reverence flows a deep awareness of our dependence on Him. We pray, “Give us this day our daily bread,” recognising that every need is met by His hand. The Spirit also leads us to confess our sins, seeking His mercy as we forgive others. This is the cleansing of our hearts, while our desire to stay pure draws us to ask, “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” In forgiveness, we find both justification and a desire for holiness. Finally, the prayer rises to praise, “For Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever.” The prayer completes a journey from adoption to worship, dependence, forgiveness, and holiness, bringing us to joyful trust in God’s eternal rule.
