Verse of The Day: Matthew 9:37-38
”Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest”
In the bustling peak periods of our daily lives, amidst the congested traffic and streams of pedestrians, what thoughts occupy our minds as we encounter the multitudes around us? In today's text, we glimpse into Jesus' journey through different cities and villages, preaching the Gospel, and something profound unfolds—He is moved with compassion for the multitudes.
Jesus didn't merely see crowds; He saw labourers, a harvest ripe for the reaping. He saw people not as rebels or sinners but as individuals in need of God's love and grace. In John 17, Jesus prayed for those who were not yet believers, foreseeing their future faith in Him.
Today, every believer is urged to seek the Lord's intervention in igniting the fire of compassion for souls within our hearts. It is easy to become satisfied with personal blessings and overlook the spiritual state of our neighbours. A reluctance to respond to calls for evangelism may stem from a lack of compassion. Without compassion, praying for the lost becomes challenging, hindering the effectiveness of our evangelistic efforts.
Let us earnestly pray for hearts that mirror Christ's compassion for the lost. As we encounter the multitudes in our lives, may we see beyond the surface and recognise the potential in each person. Let our first response to unbelievers be fervent prayer. Effective evangelism is birthed in compassionate hearts saturated in prayer for the lost.
