Verse of the Day: 1 Timothy 6:6 NKJV
“Now godliness with contentment is great gain.”
Paul, in his letter to Timothy, warned him about those who misuse the truth of God’s word to satisfy their desire for wealth and comfort. Their interest is not for God’s glory, but in their enrichment. Christianity is not measured by your level of success in life or what you gained (materially) by following Jesus. This only promotes greed in our hearts.
The message of the Gospel is not one that focuses on wealth and materialism, but in Jesus. Blessings might come, but our hearts must focus on following Jesus. Like Paul, we have learnt both to abound and to suffer need. If your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
A heart of contentment holds eternal perspective about possession. The desire for riches is far dangerous than the riches itself. Contentment enables us to avoid the pitfalls of greed and keeps our hearts aligned with God’s purpose.
Are you seeking contentment in material things, or is your satisfaction rooted in Christ?
