Verse of the Day: James 3:16 NKJV
“For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.”
When humanity fell, something deep within us changed. Created in God's image, we were meant to reflect His selfless nature, living for His will and purpose. But in that moment of disobedience, when our first parents chose their own desires over God’s command, the focus of human life shifted. From then on, the self—our own desires and ambitions—became the centre of existence, and this has shaped the world as we know it.
The story of Cain and Abel illustrates the tragedy of this shift. While the exact cause of Cain's anger remains unclear, Scripture gives us a clue. Cain’s jealousy and resentment toward his brother arose because Abel’s actions were righteous, while his own were not. When Cain allowed sin to take root in his heart, it led to the first murder, showing us how deeply destructive the self-centred life can be.
The world today is filled with envy, jealousy, and strife because we prioritise self over others. When we focus on ourselves, we fail to care for our brothers and sisters. But the Apostle John offers the remedy in his first epistle: when we love God first and foremost, we will naturally love others as well. God’s love lifts us out of the selfish life and into a life of true love and service.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, we acknowledge the self-centredness that often rules our hearts. We ask for Your transforming grace to turn us away from selfish desires and toward Your will. Help us to love You above all else and to love others with the same compassion and selflessness You have shown us.
