Verse of the Day: Hebrews 3:12-13 NKJV
“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin”
The hardening of a man’s heart is a gradual process and not just a one-time event. It often begins subtly with, the seemingly harmful content we consume daily. Consider the media we engage with, filled with images, thoughts [opinions, ideas, views, persuasions, inclinations] contrary to the Word of God. While some might believe these influences have no effect on them, the truth remains that what we see and hear are stored in our hearts without our awareness. These deposits accumulate until we suddenly realise certain thoughts have invaded our minds.
The content we consume significantly contribute to the state of our hearts. They either make our hearts receptive to God’s word or harden them, leading to unbelief. A sign that your heart is becoming hard is when you start losing interest in God. This is because your heart is now fully engaged with other issues.
Israel’s journey in the wilderness illustrates this perfectly. Despite witnessing mighty miracles, they hardened their hearts when God spoke. The pleasures of Egypt became more attractive to them than following God. They desired to go back to house of bondage.
Are there influences that might be hardening your heart towards God? Make conscious effort to fill your mind and heart with what aligns with God’s truth.
