Verse of the Day: Hebrews 3:12-13 NKJV
“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin”
The instruction to exhort one another daily is crucial to prevent our hearts from becoming hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. If sin comes to us with full exposure of its consequences, we will be wise enough to avoid it. However, sin always presents itself as pleasurable and attractive. It promises what it cannot give.
The devil told Eve that if they eat of the tree God commanded not to eat of that they would be like God knowing good and evil, but that never happened. The power of sin lies in its deceitfulness. The end goal of sin is to harden our hearts so we don’t believe God and obey His commandment.
Sin cannot exist on its own; it creates its path only after God has given His commandments or instructions. The devil devises a way of turning the hearts of men away from what God says. In the parable of the Sower, Jesus illustrated how the enemy snatches the word from the heart of some people so that they would not believe and obey.
Take some time to think about how sin presented itself to you, making false promises. Also, think about the importance of daily exhortation within your community of believers.
