Verse of the Day: Matthew 6:33 NKJV
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Jesus concludes His message about anxiety saying we should seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness. Instead of worrying, He wants us to know that our Heavenly Father cares so much about us. Secondly, He wants our primary goal and focus in life to be about living in obedience to Him.
Jesus did not promise abundance of food, drink or clothing we think we need to enjoy comfort or stay alive. He will ensure we have the right measure of these things required for us to do His will. When the children of Israel journeyed in the wilderness and were hungry, God provided enough manna for each person each day. Though capable of providing more than day’s worth of food, He gave just enough for one day at a time, with a double portion provided before Sabbath to allow the children of Israel honour His commandment regarding Sabbath. Similarly, Paul the Apostle wrote to the Philippians about learning to live in need and in plenty through Christ. He did not worry about the supply of His needs because he trusted Christ.
Jesus desires that our focus should be on doing the will of the Father rather than worrying about our needs. Our Heavenly Father will supply what we need.
