Verse of the Day: Matthew 6:25 NKJV
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”
Anxiety or Worry is a common struggle that many of us face. It takes over your heart so much that it deprives you of your joy. Jesus does not want us to continually live in this state and He addressed it in His popular sermon on the mount. It was recorded three times where He said ‘Do not be anxious’. He said all of these to highlight the importance of seeking the Kingdom above anything else that can cause you worry.
First He said, Do not worry about your life or what you would eat or drink. Jesus did not say you cannot think about your next meal or what you want to do with your life. He is simply saying, don’t torment yourself with disturbing thoughts about it. The reason He gives is that God is able to make it happen. We are mostly worried about life or food when we don’t have the capacity to make what we desire happen. By saying, do not worry, Jesus wants your attention. He wants you to focus on Him as the source of all things. He is the solution to your worry.
The main struggle for many is the practical aspect of trusting God when they lack they lack the means of getting their desires happen. How will seeking the kingdom put food on my table when I have no job? The answer is, trust God as your Provider and not your job. Your job is a means He has provided to meet your needs. Live your life daily with God as the source of all things, and you will see how He can provide miraculously for you just as He provided water from the rock and manna for the Israelites in the wilderness
